Coating Technologies

 

In order to address multiple needs for our customers, Vitek has developed processes and techniques in the following coating areas:

Electrostatic Powder Coatings
Powder coatings are applied using electrostatic spraying techniques.  It is an environmentally friendly coating process with no VOC’s.  It has a uniform coating thickness, even on edges, due to the increased adhesion of the charged powder.  The coating is very robust with excellent bonding to substrate and is well suited for complex geometries.  The typical coating thickness is 0.001” to 0.018”.

Liquid Coatings
Liquid coatings can be sprayed using air pressure, airless and HVLP (high volume low pressure).  The coating is used when special coating attributes such as Ceramics or PTFE (low friction) are needed.  The typical coating thickness is 0.003” to 0.025”.  Liquids can also be applied by other means such as dipping and electrostatic methods.

Vapor Deposition
Deposition of organic coatings, under vacuum, with parylene.  Parylene is the ultimate conformal coating.  It is a highly technical application method using high temperature and vacuum to convert solid powders into a gas.  The gas is introduced into a vacuum chamber with the parts, and it coats the parts uniformly down to the microscopic level.  The gas is non-discriminatory and will coat everything unless masked.  The typical coating thickness is 4 Microns to 0.002”.  Learn more about Parylene Coatings here.

Composite
Vitek has several proprietary techniques to apply composite coatings made of multiple layers of various materials for applications where a single material cannot satisfy all requirements.  For example, Vitek can apply Parylene by vapor deposition under vacuum over metal, and then apply a powder coating over the Parylene.  The result is a multilayer coating that has outstanding electrical and barrier resistance, and also resists abrasion and sterilization methods.
